Malvern see off Earlsdon comeback to claim victory

Malvern Editorial 16th Apr, 2018   0

MALVERN held off a spirited Earlsdon to claim a 33-24 away victory in Midlands Two West (South) on Saturday.

The visitors opened the scoring when Dan Batty outpaced the home defence to score with Ben King adding the extras.

Malvern stretched their lead not long after when Jon Bywater ghosted in for a try giving King an easy conversion to make it 14-0.

Conor Giggle then crossed the whitewash as the visitors went into the break with a comfortable advantage.

After the break the Coventry-based hosts started well and their efforts were rewarded with a converted try.

This stung Malvern back into action and the backs moved the ball forward to Batty who stormed through for his second try of the afternoon.

King’s conversion put Malvern 26-7 ahead.

Earlsdon went on the attack once again but after losing possession, the ball was played to Tom Hale who sprinted through for a try.

King kicked the extras to push the score to 33-7.

Malvern looked home and dry but Earlsdon scored three tries, one of which was converted, to move to within just nine points of the visitors.

However, the hosts could not add to their tally as Malvern closed out the win.

Second-placed Malvern complete the league season on Saturday when they entertain Evesham at Spring Lane.
