Sweet treats taking shape for Great Malvern Food Festival

Malvern Editorial 24th May, 2018   0

A FOOD artist who has created tasty artwork for some of the biggest companies in the world is set to showcase her skills at this year’s Malvern Food Festival.

Prudence Staite will be conjuring up some chocolate sculptures in front of the thousands of people expected to pack into the town centre for the event on Bank Holiday Monday.

The festival, organised by Malvern Hills District Council, runs from 10am to 5.30pm and takes place within the grounds of Great Malvern Priory and around the town centre.

Prudence has previously produced food related sculptures for major organisations including the BBC, Disney and Cadbury and her work has included chocolate crocodiles, a giant chocolate maze and a sculpture of Queen Victoria.

Also new to this year’s festival is John Swift from Ludlow-based Swift’s Bakery who will be talking about his experience on BBC Two programme Victorian Bakers.

The show took four 21st Century bakers and had them bake their way through the Victorian era to experience what their profession was like.

This year’s festival promises to be the biggest yet with more than 60 stalls selling everything from hand made fudge and curries to local beer, cured meats and curries.

Lizzy Hughes, who runs Our Lizzy Cooking in Malvern, will also be demonstrating recipes from her new Street Food course and supporting young chefs to produce tasty meals from locally grown produce.

Live music will be provided by versatile jazz ensemble Second Line and Malvern Rock Choir.

Coun David Chambers, leader of Malvern Hills District Council, said: “The Great Malvern Food Festival has grown in popularity year on year and has become a major event on the town’s social calendar.

“We look forward to welcoming people from far and wide to sample the delicious delights on offer and I’m curious to see what Sir Edward Elgar looks like in chocolate.”
