Upton TIC searching for volunteers

Malvern Editorial 8th Jun, 2018   0

VOLUNTEERS are being sought by the Upton Tourist Information and Heritage Centre to help out for a couple of hours a week.

Based in the oldest surviving building in town, The Pepperpot on Church Street, the centre is open throughout the year to welcome visitors to the area.

It provides a wealth of information on the town’s attractions, events, accommodation and its fascinating history.

Regular staff members are on hand to help but additional volunteers are also needed on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and weekends to support opening the centre a few hours each week.

Michael Jebson, who has volunteered at the centre for the last 18 years, said: “My wife Hilary and I started volunteering when we arrived in Upton as a way to get to know the town.

“We have since met people from all over the world and learn something new every day.

“My favourite thing about Upton is the many festivals we have for such a small town.

“They bring thousands of people to the area and it gets better each year.

“We find volunteering very interesting and rewarding, we love talking about our great town.”

Simon Smith, economic development manager at Malvern Hills District Council, said: “Upton Tourist Information and Heritage Centre is a hub of culture in the centre of a thriving town rich with history.

“Volunteers are an essential and much-respected part of providing a warm welcome to tourists and supplying them with all the information and advice they need.”

Between April and September, the centre is open Monday to Saturday from 10am to 5pm.

During October through to March it only opens on a Monday, Friday and Saturday from 10am to 4pm.
