A MALVERN man has gone from couch to 5km to raise awareness and funds for a town charity.

John Zoro took part in his first ever 5km race after pledging to pound the streets of Dorridge to raise money for Malvern Special Families which provides social opportunities for children and young people with disabilities.

Maria Munday, business manager for Malvern Special Families, said: “John has been an enthusiastic fundraiser for Malvern Special Families, completely smashing his original fund-raising target and raising over £150 for the charity.

“As it was National Volunteer’s Week we’d like to say a big thank-you to him and to all of our community fund-raising volunteers.

“Their fund-raising efforts are vital to our small charity.”

John spent five weeks training for the event, wearing out a pair of trainers in the process and ran the 5km in 37 minutes and 40 seconds on one of the hottest days of the year.

“I wanted to show my support for families who have children with disabilities,” he said.

“I appreciate family life can be really tough for these families.

“Malvern Special Families is a lovely small charity and I am glad I could help in some small way.”
