MALVERN MP Harriett Baldwin has praised a town company which scooped its second Queen’s Award for Enterprise.

Metrasens, which manufactures scanning equipment to detect prohibited items in prisons across the world, has been given the award to recognise its export success.

The company claimed the prestigious accolade for the second year running as it continues to grow fast from its Malvern base.

It sells 95 per cent of its kit abroad and has grown by a massive 400 per cent over the last six years.

Metrasens started up in an office next door to Mrs Baldwin at the Malvern Hills Science Park and now has a manufacturing base on the Enigma Business Park.

The company was presented with a trophy to mark the award as well as attending a reception at Buckingham Palace.

Mrs Baldwin said: “I have been in regular touch with Metrasens as it takes on the challenges of growing its team and exporting its product to different countries across the globe so it is hugely satisfying to see it repeat last year’s success.

“The company’s technology is in great demand and it is great to see an ambitious start-up continuing to thrive and grow and win appropriate recognition for its success.

“The team at Metrasens are hugely ambitious and I have been pleased to be able to champion their expertise both at home and abroad.

“I look forward to popping in to help celebrate the award in person very soon.”
