TWO groups of students from Malvern’s Chase School took part in a Worcestershire Arts Partnership project designed to inspire youngsters to produce their own compositions.

The scheme was based on the BBC Ten Pieces project which aimed to introduce a bran new set of classical pieces to engage children aged between seven and 14.

The Chase’s music group comprised of 14 Year Eight students, most of who had never previously performed in public.

The students worked hard with professional DJ Ed Steelefox to produce a composition based on Mason Bates’ A Bao Qu from An Antyhology of Fantastic Zoology.

Picking up on the palindromic structure of the original, they created a performance with junk drumming, singing, keyboard and guitar playing as well as a dramatic presentation called ‘O Stone, Be Not So’.

Meanwhile, the Chase’s drama group comprised on 23 students from Year Seven to Ten.

They worked with professional theatre practitioner Lee Farley from The Perfect Circle Theatre Company to produce a devised piece of theatre based on Elgar’s Enigma Variations.

The students performed their pieces at Kidderminster Town Hall.
