Bank Holiday blues for Barnards Green

Malvern Editorial 28th Aug, 2018   0

BARNARDS Green’s hopes of claiming promotion from Birmingham League Division One appear to be all-but over after suffering back-to-back defeats over the Bank Holiday weekend.

On Saturday, Green made the trip to fellow promotion hopefuls Bridgnorth and were comfortably beaten by four wickets.

Batting first, Green were all out for 137 in the final over with only Ryan Tongue (28), Mahaaz Ahmed (34) and Jack Mackintosh (24) reaching double figures.

In reply Bridgnorth opener Ian Gregory hit 66 off 98 balls to help fire the hosts to 140-6 inside 35 overs.

Green’s disappointment continued over into Monday when they tasted a 77-run home defeat to basement boys Wellington.

Wellington chose to bat after winning the toss and were all out for 179.

George Rhodes (4-40), Phil Harris (3-22) and Andy Ford (3-33) did the damage with the ball for Green who were bustled out for just 102 in their reply.

Green travel to Halesowen on Saturday.
