'Snow on its way' as Met Office issues weather warning for Malvern

Malvern Editorial 28th Jan, 2019   0

THE MET Office has issued a warning for snow across Malvern, starting during tomorrow’s evening rush hour.

Forecasters predict freezing temperatures from tonight to tomorrow morning with rain starting from around 2pm before it turns to snow at 5pm, which will fall for the next couple of hours after that.

Drivers are being urged to take care both on the icy roads tomorrow morning and during the wintry showers they could be faced with on their way home tomorrow evening.

Breakdown company Green Flag said it was expecting more call-outs across the country this week, due to the conditions and urged motorists to prepare for the weather ahead.

The company’s experts suggest drivers have an ice scraper and good de-icer spray, should check their car’s anti-freeze levels are kept at the recommended amount they are supposed to be at and that their windscreen washer water container has sufficient washer fluid in it so screens can be kept clean while driving.

People should also ensure their tyre treads meet at least the legal minimum requirement of 1.6mm but preferably 3mm.

Drivers need to also allow for longer stopping distances in the wintry conditions.

And Green Flag suggests motorists have a cold weather kit in their car – including a reflective jacket, shovel, tow rope, torch and blanket.

Worestershire County Council has confirmed the gritters will be out this evening for primary and secondary routes from 6pm and again tomorrow morning ahead of the snow which is forecast for tomorrow evening.
