Malvern's MP to reject Brexit extension proposals

Malvern Editorial 3rd Sep, 2019   0

WEST Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has rejected the proposals which would see a further extension to the Brexit process, writes Ben Workman.

he proposals, put forward by opposition members in a bid to lessen the chance of no-deal, are due to be debated in the House of Commons later today.

They are expected to call for the process to be lengthened to January.

Britain is due to leave the EU on October 31.

MPs return to the House of Commons today and, provided the Speaker agrees, a motion will be put forward to allow MPs to debate and vote on the draft legislation.

If this motion succeeds Prime Minister Boris Johnson has suggested that he will call a general election, possibly on October 14.

Mrs Baldwin categorically said she was not in favour of any process that would see an extension to a Brexit.

“I don’t want to support any further extension to the process.

“A majority of British people – and a majority of people in West Worcestershire – voted to leave in 2016 and it is my desire to see this democratic process respected.”

Mrs Baldwin wishes to see Britain leave the EU with a deal and ‘in an orderly way’.
