Council seeking Malvern business' views on apprenticeship schemes

Malvern Editorial 15th Jan, 2020   0

BUSINESSES across Malvern are being canvassed for their views on apprenticeships, writes Oliver Savidge.

The consultation is being carried out by the district council about the schemes which help jobseekers form new skills for potential employees.

Coun Daniel Walton, the chair of the apprenticeship task and finish group, said: “Apprenticeships are a great alternative to university.

“They allow you to earn money while gaining a qualification and on the job experience and can benefit those wishing to upskill during their career.”

Grant funding has been made available from the Government, to help businesses recruit apprentices for roles.

Despite the efforts the number of people looking for an apprenticeship in the past five years has hardly risen.

Coun Walton added: “While businesses are increasingly turning to apprenticeships to fill skills shortages, the number of people participating in them is falling.”
