Scheme will help high-achievers get into Malvern's Abbey College

HIGH achieving young people who would not normally be able to afford to go to Abbey College in Malvern could get the chance thanks to a new scheme.

There are five places available for deserving year eight and nine students – one free and the other four at just £400.

For years ten to 13 it will be £700 per term, a fraction of the £4,866 it usually costs.

Abbey College was formed in 1874 and built up a strong reputation in Malvern which is statistically the safest town in the UK.

School principal Malcolm Wood said: “We are really delighted to be able to offer these once-in-a-lifetime opportunities for local students who have big dreams but are unable to afford an independent education.”

This project was a big success when it was open to year ten students last year that the college has now decided to extend it to years eight and nine for September this year.

Mr Wood added: “At Abbey College we can offer students a whole range of opportunities that would simply not be accessible to them in state education.”
