Malvern flies the flag to mark Commonwealth Day

Malvern Editorial 10th Mar, 2020   0

COMMONWEALTH Day was marked in Malvern yesterday.

The district council was one of 1,000 organisations to fly the Commonwealth Flag to celebrate the union of nations and the organisation’s values of peace, democracy and equality.

Commonwealth Day is held on the second Monday in March each year and is an opportunity for individuals, communities and organisations to promote what the Commonwealth stands for.

This year’s theme is ‘Delivering a Common Future: Connecting, Innovating, Transforming’.

It was chosen because the diverse family of 54 Commonwealth countries connect at many levels through extensive and deep-rooted networks of friendship and goodwill.

Coun Dean Clarke, Chairman of Malvern Hills District Council, raised the flag.

He said: “By flying the flag, we are representing the strong bond and connection the Malvern Hills district has with communities across the Commonwealth.”
