A minute's silence to be held at 11am today for NHS and other key workers who have died during Coronavirus pandemic

PEOPLE are being urged to join in with a minute’s silence at 11am on today (Tuesday) to remember frontline NHS and other key workers who have lost their lives to Coronavirus.

It comes following a campaign by unions, the Royal College of Midwives and the Royal College of Nursing.

Today is International Workers Memorial Day (IWMD) and unions and other organisations, including Droitwich Labour Group, are also urging people to place a lit candle in their window tonight to remember all those who have lost their lives at work.

They say, with the number of frontline staff who have died during the Coronavirus pandemic, this year’s IWMD will be particularly poignant this year.

Among them have been workers in the Worcestershire Hospitals Acute NHS Trust, medical staff, bus drivers in several cities and residential care home workers.

This year’s IWMD will focus on the safety of all those who are continuing to work during the current pandemic to keep essential services running.
