Top British skateboarders and director heading to Malvern Theatre for 'Boarders' film premiere

THE FILM ‘Boarders’ will premiere at Malvern Theatres this month with a live question and answer session with British skateboarders Sam Beckett and Jordan Thackerey as well as director Annika Ranin.

The essence of skateboarding has always centred around a youthful, rebellious energy and a freedom of expression and the film examines the sport’s inclusion in the Olympics and whether that will dilute the DNA of the sport.

For director Annika that was the key motivation behind the movie.

She said: “For me the film was never about who makes it to the Olympics, even though the film touches on the Olympic qualification process.

“The centre of the film is the idea that skateboarding is included for the first-time and the various responses to that.”

Catherine Norris, Trusts and Creative Learning Coordinator at Malvern Theatres believes Boarders is a film that offers a unique perspective on professional sport.

She said: “Skateboarding was one of the most talked about events at this year’s Olympics and we are delighted be welcoming Sam and Jordan to tell us first-hand about their boarding experiences.

“To also have the director of the film is a unique and wonderful opportunity.”

Boarders, certificate 15, arrives at Malvern Theatres on September 18.
