LOCAL tourism businesses reducing their environmental impact are being recognised by Malvern Hills District Council as part of its new Green Tourism Accreditation Scheme.
The scheme offers Green Mark accreditation to tourism and hospitality businesses in the area.
The Green Mark will showcase a commitment by businesses to adopting greener practices, with tourism companies becoming part of a Visit The Malverns Sustainable Tourism Business Group.
Businesses to have already achieved the Green Mark include The Cottage in the Wood Hotel, while the Fold in Bransford was given the honour for their commitment to educating others about the benefits of adopting greener practices.
Other businesses to have scooped the honour include Rowley Farm Holidays, Black Dog Adventures and Hazelhurst Farm.
The District Council has encouraged other local companies to take the Sustainable Tourism quiz, which will allow them to find out whether they are eligible for a green mark.
Malvern Hills District Council’s portfolio holder for tourism and economic development, Coun Daniel Walton said: “This is a great opportunity for our outstanding tourism businesses to get involved, and play an important role in helping the area become a recognised green tourism destination.”
The council’s visitor economy officer Victoria Carman added that the first businesses to be awarded the prize showed great commitment to adopting greener practices and she is confident many more will join them.
