Agatha Christie's whodunit The Mousetrap is heading to Malvern Theatres

Malvern Editorial 22nd Jan, 2023   0

AGATHA Christie’s The Mousetrap is showing at the Malvern Festival Theatre as part of its 70th anniversary tour from January 30 to February 4, writes Sonny Rackham.

The show, starring John Altman, Todd Carty and Gwyneth Strong, kicked off in September 2022 at the Theatre Royal Nottingham, where it had its world premiere in 1952.

As well as its Malvern dates, the production will visit 70 venues around the UK, including St Martin’s Theatre in the West End where it remains a record-breaking show having been performed there more than 28,500 times and selling more than 10million tickets over the years.

The whodunit follows a group of seven strangers who find themselves snowed in at Monkswell Manor, a countryside guesthouse as news spreads of a murder in London. When a police sergeant shows up, each of the strangers’ pasts are revealed as the audience attempts to piece together the mystery.

The Mousetrap is produced by Adam Spiegel Productions and is directed by Ian Talbot OBE.

Strong, who plays Mrs Boyle, said: “The audiences love it so much and it’s got such a tinge of history, especially with it now being the 70th anniversary.

Carty who plays Major Metcalf, said: “I remembered it being such a great play and I’ve always been an Agatha Christie fan, having first gotten hooked on her storytelling by seeing the Margaret Rutherford/Miss Marple films on TV.”
