THE FIRST ever Suckley Quarter Marathon on Sunday has been hailed a success.

The scenic course took runners through country lanes and fields.

The day started with a children’s race which saw 32 youngsters take part in a 2km run around the hop fields – all proceeds went towards the local primary school.

The 10.5K run started and finished at the Hop Shed brewery with 177 runners taking part.

First home was Henry Pugh from Malvern Joggers who completed the course in 40mins, 45secs.

Sarah Armstrong from the Malvern Buzzards was the first woman home in 49mins and 45secs.

There were trophies for the ‘Local Lad’ won by Digby Morgan and ‘Local Lady’ claimed by Fionnuala O’Hickey – both live within the parish boundaries.

Other attractions included real ale and hand-made cakes.

The race was organised for charity and all cash raised will go to Suckley SPACE, a local community project.

Race director Lily Price, after months of sorting out all the details, said it was a great day out and everyone enjoyed themselves with many runners hoping to take on the course again next year.

She added: “We are really pleased with how the first Suckley Quarter Marathon went.

“There has been so much positive feedback about the organisation, the atmosphere, the route and the fabulous friendly marshals.

“We are over the moon.”
