Musician heading to Malvern and Worcester to promote his new book about his bike ride to Rome, playing his cello along the way

A CELLO player and author is set to perform in Worcester and Malvern as part of his scheduled book tour, writes Poppy Chambers.

Last summer, Kenneth Wilson strapped his cello to the back of his 50-year-old Dawes Galaxy bike and rode 1,800 miles from Hadrian’s Wall to Rome.

Every day of his trip he played the cello, giving formal and informal concerts, busking and responding to the people he met and events he encountered.

The journey saw him taking on steep roads through the Alps, through 40 degrees heat, into conflict with the Mafia and other adventures.

Last month, through City Village Books, he published ‘Highway Cello’ – the first account of his unusual journey and the music it derived.

Now he is off on tour to promote the book which tells his amazing journey.

People will be able to meet Kenneth and receive a signed or an advanced epub copy for review at Bored and Bookless, Worcester, at 1pm on Friday, June 9, and Malvern Book Co-operative at 5pm on Sunday, June 11.
