THIS YEAR’S Malvern Walking Festival finished on a high on Sunday with the presentation of a cheque to the Midland Air Ambulance, which the event supports.
A total of 74 walks were organised over a nine-day period, bringing many new visitors to Malvern – with each of them staying in pubs, bed and breakfasts or camping.
Bob Baldwin, the festival chair, said: “This year’s festival was the most successful yet in our 18-year history. “
The weather was fabulous all the way through with end-to-end sunshine and a cooling breeze, perfect for people tackling some of the steeper sections.
More than a thousand ramblers joined a wide variety of walks – half day, whole day, multi-day walks and a large number, all themed on telling the story of Malvern’s past and history.
With such a successful festival, the organisers were happy to support the Midland Air Ambulance, whose services fortunately were not needed, and the Malvern Hills Trust which is responsible for the land the walkers enjoyed rambling over.
Bob added: “We’ve learnt a lot from the 2023 Festival and work will start shortly on the planning and organisation of the 2024 one – which will run from May 25 to June 2, 2024 – to make it even more successful “
