AN ALFRICK man celebrated his 60th birthday while running 10 gruelling marathons in 10 days around Lake Windermere, winning the competition and breaking records.
Paul Davies was accompanied by 15 other runners when he took on the demanding feat last month in aid of the Brathay Trust.
The charity gives under privileged children a better start in life.
Day five was a highlight for Paul, running past Hawkshead School where all the children gave the runners a ‘high five’ and a painted stone with the runners’ numbers and names on so they could have a souvenir.
And it was day six which was his 60th birthday.
He told the Observer: “I didn’t mind missing out on the celebrations – I didn’t want to run day seven with a headache.”
As well as winning the whole event, Paul broke the Vet/55 record by 2hrs, 30mins, completing the whole challenge in 37hrs and 2mins.
Paul added: “In doing this I have so far raised over £3,000 for the trust, and would like to thank all those that donated.”
