Update
Openreach engineers have continued working overnight to rectify the problem and the broadband provider have confirmed most homes and businesses affected now have internet access.
Work will continue to fix issues for those still affected and an update this afternoon will ‘hopefully wrap things up.’
MAJOR damage to broadband infrastructure in a Malvern street has left countless residents and businesses without internet.
Openreach – who are responsible for maintaining the UK’s broadband network – have confirmed five underground cables in St Andrews Road sustained ‘quite a lot of damage’ and their engineers have been working overnight to rectify the problem.
The telecommunications company have said two of the five damaged cables have been repaired, reinstating internet connection for some affected customers while many will remain without internet until the full extent of the damage is repaired.
“Engineers are working hard to replace five damaged underground cables in the Malvern area, which are disrupting broadband for local homes and businesses.
“Work started yesterday, as soon as we found out about the damage, and two of the five cables are repaired.
“Work is already underway on the third cable and is going well. It’s a complex and time-consuming job but we’re doing everything we can to get the rest of the work finished as quickly and safely as possible.
“We understand that being without broadband is hugely disruptive for everyday life, and would like to reassure local people that we’re doing all we can to reconnect them as quickly as possible.”
The cause of the damage, which occurred on July 5, has not been confirmed. It appears that various broadband providers are being affected by the damage including Sky, BT, TalkTalk, Vodafone, Plusnet and EE.
