Police step up patrols after reports of youth on off-road bike

Malvern Editorial 24th Jul, 2023   0

OFFICERS have stepped up patrols in an area of Malvern district after reports of a youth riding a pit bike dangerously in the area without a helmet.

Officers from Pickersleigh and Chase Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) were called to Brookfarm Drive.

Pit bikes are not road legal and should not be driven on public roads or in public places.

To be roadworthy, bikes must be equipped with the appropriate safety equipment such as lights, mirrors and indicators.

The riders must also have insurance, tax and MoT.

Anyone seen to be riding a motor propelled vehicle in a way which causes alarm, distress or annoyance, can be seized by police.

Riding on a public road without a licence or insurance is also an offence which you can be prosecuted for.

When the officers arrived, there was no trace of the illegal riders.

The SNT have stepped up patrols around Brookfarm Drive.

And officers have urged anyone witnessing illegal riding of off-road bikes to call them on 101 or 999 if there is immediate danger to the public.
