THE 12th Malvern Hills Challenge was hailed a success as around 370 people trekked the hills on a damp and misty day to raise funds for Help for Heroes.
The event raised over £15,000 for the charity this year, with support from a range of local organisations, smashing their target of £12,000.
Volunteers were on hand during the walk to guide competitors and keep things running smoothly as funds were raised to help the charity in their efforts to support British Armed Forces veterans, serving personnel, and those who have served alongside the UK military.
The charity provides them and their families with physical and mental health support, as well as their financial, social and welfare needs.
Lance Corporal Derby, the mascot of the Mercian Regiment, was among the welcoming party at the event’s finish line, Priory Park.
Mike Davies, Malvern Hills Trust Chairman, Malvern Hills District Council Chairman, Councillor Barbara Jones-Williams, and the Mayor of Malvern, Cllr Clive Hooper were also present to award the medals and rosettes to those who successfully completed the event.
The Mayor said, “It was a privilege to be able to congratulate those taking part in the event and supporting this very important charity which does so much valuable work for the armed forces community.
“In spite of the weather, everyone seemed to enjoy taking part, coming back to the finish with smiles on their faces. Well done to everyone.”
