MALVERN Hills Trust is continuing its Christmas Advent calendar to highlight the valuable work of their rangers and staff who care for Malvern Link and the Commons.

Each day of the Advent in the lead up to Christmas, the trust will showcase the work of their staff through information and photos on social media.

On the first five days, the trust highlighted their work in mapping the grazing areas of the hills’ Highland Cattle, tree pruning, the work of their volunteer trustee’s and maintaining their main income stream – car park meters.

Day six saw warden, Angela clearing vegetation from the banks and ditches of British Camp hillfort in order to conserve the precious archeology. British Camp hillfort is one of three scheduled monuments under the trust’s care.

On day seven, staff member Rich said goodbye to a straw donkey from the hills as it was moved to a new location. The trust have left the following clue to help people locate the donkey.

  • Clue: It was once a popular place where you could hire a ride to the top of the Malverns. Can you track down the donkey?

Day eight showcased administrative assistant, Cindy preparing papers for an upcoming meeting of the board and committees, who meet regularly to discuss a wide variety of topics and make strategic decisions.

On day nine, warden Angela and field staff, Neil and Martin helped pupils continue their volunteering efforts with the trust.

Children from The Chase School, Malvern returned to weed and mulch seven trees they had helped plant back in 2022.

A spokesperson for Malvern Hills Trust said: “Well done for getting stuck in on a wet afternoon.”

On day 10, staff member Simon filled in a pothole in a car park at the West of England site. Maintaining the car parks gives visitors a starting point for their exploration of the hills and commons.

Today – Monday, December 11 communication and conservation officer Beck examined the geology of the quarries, which have previously uncovered some ‘geological wonders’.

Beck visited Earth Heritage Trust who were volunteering to help clear rock faces at Berrington Quarry to re-expose the historical geology.
