Worcester's Peregrine Falcon's are expecting any minute now

Malvern Editorial 18th Apr, 2024   0

EXPERTS at Worcester Cathedral have revealed they expect this year’s first Peregrine Falcon egg to hatch on Monday (April 22).

Four eggs have arrived so far, with people coming to the Cathedral’s YouTube page in their droves to watch a 24-hour live stream of the falcons.

The adult birds, named Peter and Peggy by Cathedral followers, have been visiting the nest box for a few months now.

Engrossed viewers have spent this week watching Peter and Peggy taking turns to incubate the eggs.

‘Peregrine tourists’ have travelled from Norwich, Scarborough, Cromer and Salisbury visiting the city to catch a glimpse of the Falcons.

This year’s action is being live-streamed on a screen inside the Cathedral.

Cathedral bosses will also host a series of drop-in sessions with a team of experts, cameras and scopes to allow people to see the birds up close later in the season.

Peregrines have been in and around Worcester for hundreds of years and are depicted in the Cathedral’s great West Window and parts of the stonework.
