OVER 200 years of singing heritage ‘raised the roof’ in Malvern last week when Malvern Male Voice Choir (MMVC) were joined in concert by the Swindon Male Voice Choir.
A total of 65 singers from both choirs sang to a capacity crowd at Holy Trinity Church on Saturday, June 8.
The concert featured a wide range of music including favourites from Rodgers & Hammerstein and more modern musicals, American spirituals – both very well-known and not – and a Welsh male voice choir standard.
Arrangements of folk songs will contrast in age with numbers popularised by Matt Monro, Janis Joplin and Robbie Williams, whilst film music will compete for familiarity with some other well-established classics.
A spokesperson for the MMVC said the sound was truly uplifting.
They added: “With that amount of vocal power we really did raise the roof. Singing with Swindon was such a positive experience with our shared love of music.”
Malvern Male Voice Choir recently celebrated its 102nd birthday while Swindon’s longest established choir is even older, having been formed three years earlier in 1919.
