A SOCIAL landlord in Worcestershire have shared their delight at supporting the recent Malvern Pride event.
Platform Housing Group took part in Malvern Pride in the town’s Priory Park on Saturday, July 27.
It was the third successive year the housing association has supported the event.
Tom Piotrowski, diversity and inclusion manager at Platform Housing Group said : “Attending events such as these is the right thing to do in terms of community engagement and supporting the LGBT+ community in general.
“Three per cent of our colleagues identify as LGBTQ+; we hope to attract more candidates from that particular community to join us in the near future.”
Previously, Platform has attended other Pride events in Worcester, Leicester and Lincoln.
Colleagues from the group spoke to attendees about how it celebrates diversity including its Diversity Champions programme which focuses on LGBT, religion and belief, disabilities and lifelong conditions like autism, ethnic minorities and other diversity strands.
Currently employees volunteer within an area of interest and customers are also encouraged to take part.
The team also discussed current vacancies, housing support and grant availability too.
Tom added: “We support a number of important community projects which promote diversity in our communities and welcome interest from all groups, including LGBTQ+.
“People identifying as LGBTQ+ suffer some of the most drastic effects of social exclusion including homelessness and mental health crises.
“Tragically, many people from that community still suffer from hate crimes.
“We therefore feel that it is important that we support events such as these and take a stand in combating myths and prejudice that regrettably is often associated with the LGBTQ+ community.”
