West Mercia Police recorded over 780 hit and run crashes in three years

WEST MERCIA Police recorded 781 hit and run crashes in the last three years, with only 33 per cent being prosecuted.

The force confirmed that there have been eight deaths since 2020 and 144 serious or life threatening injuries.

As well as 791 people also recorded as sustained ‘slight’ injuries.

The Crown Prosecution Service said that just 257 hit-and-run prosecutions have been made in West Mercia in the same time period.

If a person is convicted of a hit-and-run, they can receive 5-10 points on their licence or be sent to prison for up to 26 weeks and fined by the Court up to £5,000.

According to, Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), = the number of prosecutions for hit-and-run offences dropped from 5,399 in 2021/22 to 3,906 in 2023/24.
