HISTORIC buildings in Worcester will be open for free in September to tell the stories of their past.
Heritage Open Days will be running between September 6 and 15 when there will be free guided tours and activities in some of the Faithful City’s oldest buildings.
The Mayor of Worcester, Coun Mel Allcott, will welcome people to the Guildhall so they can learn more about the history of that building.
Coun Allcott said: “Worcester is full of beautiful and historic buildings and many have a story or two to tell. The Guildhall history is fascinating for residents and visitors. Please do come to the Guildhall on Saturday, September 7, for a tour and a visit to the Mayor’s Parlour.”
St Swithun’s Church, off Worcester’s High Street, will be open after its renovation and Hidden Parts Tours will be held.
The Tudor House in Friar Street will be showcasing its recent Tudor Textiles – Bedfellows project. As part of the scheme, volunteers recreated Tudor-style curtains and a counterpane (bedspread) for a four-poster bed, using traditional techniques.
Worcester Cathedral will host graffiti tours which will enable people to learn about the marks left by the those who built and worshipped there.
There will be an exhibition at Worcester City Art Gallery and Museum, plus a tour of local newspaper archives, and a talk on the Butts Spur railway line while the Museum of Royal Worcester will host a flower modelling and ceramic painting demonstration.
