RESIDENTS in Malvern are being encouraged to support local businesses this festive season.

Malvern Hills District Council (MHDC) is working with the local Town Crier to spread cheer and boost trade for local businesses.

MHDC is encouraging people to support their town centre traders by challenging them to purchase all their Christmas shopping locally.

The Malvern Hills District is full of seasonal shopping opportunities and bursting with independent shops across the town centres.

There is lots on offer, including handmade arts, crafts, antiques, curios, homewares and furniture, clothes, accessories and haberdashery, garden centres, nurseries and florists, cards and jewellery, books and vinyl, food and drink, and of course, toys.

Mike Fray, Malvern’s Town Crier, will be making public announcements at events across the district in Great Malvern, Barnards Green, Malvern Link, Tenbury Wells, and Upton upon Severn.

He will be at Great Malvern Farmers’ Market from 12 noon to 2pm on November 16, at Tenbury Mistletoe Festival from 12 noon to 3pm on December 7, at Upton Christmas Market from 12 noon to 3pm on December 8, at Tenbury Football Club from 3pm to 4.30pm on December 12, and at Malvern Town Football Club from 2.30pm to 4pm on December 14.

Councillor Julie Wood, portfolio holder for economic development and tourism at Malvern Hills District Council, said: “We are so excited to see that the Town Crier will be making proclamations over the festive period.

“He will be making his debut at the Great Malvern Farmers’ Market this weekend, so don’t miss him. It is great opportunity to find that perfect Christmas gift and to explore our wonderful town centre shops.”
