ORGANISATIONS in Malvern are being given the opportunity to claim funds towards the costs of upskilling and training employees thanks to council funding.

Malvern Hills District Council (MHDC) has announced a new SkillsBoost grant which will allow companies to claim 50 per cent, up to £6,000, towards the costs of training and employee skills.

SkillsBoost Worcestershire is being delivered in partnership with the Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership and Worcestershire Growth Hub.

MHDC have been able to allocate the grant through the government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

Businesses of any size and sector are eligible for the programme as long as the business is based in the district. So far, 44 Malvern Hills employees have been supported to participate in skills courses through the programme.

Optimec Metrology based in Malvern, manufacture precision optical metrology instruments, and are one of the local businesses to recently access the SkillsBoost grant to support the costs of training of their staff.

Kerry Blandford, Director at Optimec Metrology, said “The funding received allowed essential staff training to be completed ahead of plan whilst optimising cashflow. New skills learned boosted personnel productivity and our business efficiency.”

Funding for the SkillsBoost programme is limited on a first come first served basis and is available from now until March 31, 2025.

Councillor Julie Wood, Portfolio holder for Strategic Planning, Economic Development and Tourism, at Malvern Hills District Council said: “SkillsBoost Worcestershire is a great programme to support local businesses.”
