A FORMER all-girls school in Malvern has shared its pride in announcing it will soon be welcoming boys at all ages for the first time in its 132-year history.
Malvern St James Girls’ School will drop the ‘girls’ moniker and welcome boys aged three to 18 from September 2025.
The school is keen to extend an opportunity for boys to access its recognised excellence for teaching, learning, pastoral care, boarding provision, co-curricular activities programme and more.
The move aligns with other schools within the Galaxy Global Education Group (GGEG), of which Malvern St James (MSJ) is a part.
MSJ is also responding to a global society that on balance, favours co-education. Head, Dr Gareth Lloyd, recognised this news might be received with a mixture of emotions.
He said: “I want to assure everyone this transition is rooted in an educational philosophy that embraces inclusion, respect and preparation for life beyond MSJ.
“We believe welcoming boys to MSJ will enrich the learning environment, broaden perspectives, and provide every student with an even stronger foundation for success beyond school.”
Facilities are being assessed to ensure they are welcoming and accommodating for boys, while enhancing the experience for all students.
This includes making the necessary adjustments which will not only support boys’ needs but also significantly improve such areas as sports facilities for the benefit of all students.
