A LONG-RUNNING campaign to protect banking services in Tenbury Wells has culminated in a milestone which saw the town’s MP open a new pop-up bank.
West Worcestershire MP Dame Harriett Baldwin has long been campaigning to protect services for the town and is hopeful this step in the process will prove popular for users.
To mark the milestone, the MP visited the new home of the TSB banking service which will be based in the town’s library every Friday. The main bank branch will close on May 20.
Dame Harriett met with senior management from TSB last year to ask that the bank would keep a presence in Tenbury to ensure customers are able to access one-to-one banking support.
The bank has committed to keep the service on offer for as long as customers need it, and the bank is encouraging customers to head up the street on Fridays to talk to TSB staff based at the library.
Dame Harriett said: “I was instrumental in helping to find this permanent home for the pop-up service.
“More and more people are banking online but I have been keen to speak up for the older and vulnerable customers who need personal banking support.
“Together TSB and the Post Office are working to ensure a smooth transition and I’ll be keeping a close eye on the usage of the new pop-up service, which I hope will prove popular for customers.”
Rachael Cole, branch banking senior manager, South West recognised customer needs to access banking and cash services and said the organisation are looking for innovative and inclusive ways to provide them.
She added: “Customers using our pop-up in the library will be able to access most of the services they did in the branch like making payments, getting help with products and services, and assistance with bereavements. Cash services will be available from the Post Office on Teme Street.”
