TWO STALWART carers in Malvern are celebrating a quarter of a century of looking after elderly residents in the town.

The pair – Anita Kendrick and Sue Stocker – are celebrating 25 years of caring for patients at Perrins House care home, run by Friends of the Elderly Malvern.

As health care assistants, Anita and Sue have supported countless residents through their later years in life. Both play an important role in the daily lives of the residents, providing support, encouragement and care.

“If you add our years of service together, we’re celebrating our Golden Anniversary this year, which is quite an achievement,” said Anita.

“I’d always wanted to work in care as it has always been important to me to support others to help them live a more fulfilled life. It’s such a worthwhile and rewarding role.”

Both studied at The Chase High School in Malvern, although they did not know each other, with Sue becoming a hairdresser while Anita went straight into the care sector after being part of a youth training scheme.

“Years later, I took a job working in healthcare, as I still had an inbuilt desire to help and look after others,” Sue said.

“Making the sure the residents are happy and comfortable is everything. I love coming to work, and being with the residents is like having a wonderful, caring and extended family.”

Recollecting on their time at the homes, the pair have shared fond memories of bonding with residents whilst caring for them both emotionally and physically.

“Over the years, I have grown and nurtured great bonds with the residents and making sure that all their individual needs are met, every day, gives me a wonderful sense of purpose,” Anita added.

Sue says not two days are the same in the job, but each can be ‘so fulfilling’ when she is able to see the positive impact she is having on residents.

“Both Anita and Sue are totally devoted to the residents,” said Jo Bennett, general manager at Friends of the Elderly Malvern.

“They are both wonderful listeners and are always on hand to spend time with the residents, chatting, reminiscing and, when needed, providing emotional support.”
