LIVE BLOG - Malvern students are hopeful on GCSE results day

Sonny Rackham 21st Aug, 2025   0

AFTER a hard fought two years, Malvern’s GCSE students arrive at schools across the region to collect their results and find out if all their hard work has paid off.

Pupils will be hoping they’ve got the grades they need to progress onto sixth-form, college or other training and employment.

GCSE results are graded from level 9 to 1 rather than the previous alphabetical grading of A to E.

A third of grades are at the top level for MSJ (grades 8 and 9) with an increase in grade 9s from 2024. Additionally, 50 per cent of results came in at grades 9 to 7, with 75 per cent at grades 9 to 6 (A* to B equivalent).

Participants in the school’s new one-year GCSE/three-year A Level programme were among those who received the highest grades. Once again, students have achieved a 100 per cent pass rate in all subjects, with students averaging a grade 7 overall.

Dr Gareth Lloyd, Head of MSJ, said: “We are delighted for our Year 11 students today as they celebrate their GCSE results — those who have achieved a string of top-tier grade 9s, those who have far exceeded their personal expectations, and those who have achieved outstanding results in individual subjects.

“I would like to extend my congratulations to all our Year 11 students and look forward to an exciting new chapter with existing and new students from the local area and further afield in MSJ Sixth Form next month.”

Notable results at grades 9–7 (A* and A equivalent) include:

  • French – 100 per cent
  • Music – 86 per cent
  • Religious Studies – 80 per cent
  • Art – 70 per cent
  • Physical Education and Further Mathematics – 67 per cent
  • Chemistry – 63 per cent
