MALVERN Town conceded an injury-time goal in an agonising 2-1 defeat against unbeaten Bishops Cleeve.

The Hillsiders took the lead courtesy of Sam Clark’s first-half goal only for the visitors to turn the game on its head after the break at the HDAnywhere Community Stadium.

Bishops Cleeve equalised shortly after half time through Matt Liddiard before Jay Malshanskyj stole the points for the visitors at the death.

The result means Malvern sit third in the Southern League Division One South table, two points behind leaders Winchester City.

Lee Hooper’s side broke the deadlock on 21 minutes when Clark volleyed home Joe Tumelty’s corner from close range.

However, Bishops Cleeve equalised four minutes after half time as Liddiard found the net following a scramble in the box at a corner.

And the visitors snatched the points three minutes into injury time when Malshanskyj lobbed the ball over Seth Locke from the edge of the penalty area.

Former Malvern man Lewis Spurrier saw red for the visitors at the death after he picked up a second yellow card although the Hillsiders ran out of time in their search for an equaliser.

Malvern are next in action against AFC Rushden and Diamonds in the FA Trophy on Saturday, October 4 with kick-off at 3pm at Hayden Road.
