PEOPLE can learn lifesaving CPR in just 15 minutes at Worcester’s Guildhall.
Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust is inviting members of the public to take part in the free, drop-in CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) training event as part of Restart a Heart Day on Thursday October 16.
Led by Resuscitation Council UK (RCUK), Restart a Heart Day aims to raise awareness of cardiac arrest and increase the number of people trained in lifesaving CPR. The Trust’s resuscitation officers and healthcare professionals will be on hand to deliver quick, 15-minute training sessions throughout the day from 9.30am to 3pm. No booking is required, and no prior experience is needed.
This training will focus on what to do in emergency situations, when someone suddenly collapses and stops breathing.
Michelle Slater, resuscitation and physical health team lead at the Trust said: “Restart a Heart Day is a brilliant opportunity for people of all ages to learn a skill that could save a life. As around 80 per cent of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests happen in the home, learning CPR can greatly increase your loved ones’ chances of surviving. By taking just 15 minutes to learn CPR, you could be the difference in a life-or-death situation.”
Statistics from the British Heart Foundation reveal more than 30,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests happen every year in the UK. Sadly, fewer than one in ten people survive. But early CPR and defibrillation can more than double the chances of survival.
