WEST WORCESTERSHIRE MP Dame Harriett Baldwin has praised the work of an organisation which helps rural communities to preserve its village shops, pubs and community resources.
The Plunkett Foundation was set up over 100 years ago to help to preserve the assets of rural communities and it has been involved supporting the foundation of village shops in Alfrick and Lower Broadheath.
The charity campaigns to preserve rural assets and encourage community ownership and Dame Harriett met with representatives to learn more about its campaigning.
Dame Harriett said: “The Plunkett Foundation has been extraordinarily supportive of local efforts to preserve the village stores at Alfrick and Lower Broadheath and both are doing well under community ownership.
“Most often, communities know the assets they’d like to preserve, whether it is a village hall or a pub, and it is useful that they can access the support offered by the Foundation.
“At a time when the Government is looking to shrink the Post Office network and put rural village stores at risk of closure, I welcome any efforts to help keep villages alive and well in West Worcestershire and up and down the land.”
