ONE OF the country’s most loved actors is set to perform in Malvern in a mysterious drama.
Award-winning actor Robert Powell takes to the stage of Malvern Theatres to play the main role of detective Hercule Poirot in a show titled ‘Black Coffee’.
The shows takes place between Monday, April 7 and Saturday, April 12 starting at 7.30pm. There will also be matinee performances on Wednesday (April 9) and Saturday (April 12) starting at 2.30pm.
Black Coffee tells the story of a quintessential English country estate which is thrown into chaos following the murder of eccentric inventor Sir Claud Amory and the theft of his new earth shattering formula.
Arriving at the estate just moments too late, one man immediately senses a potent brew of despair, treachery, and deception amid the estate’s occupants. That man being Hercule Poirot.
In the first play ever written by Agatha Christie visitors to Malvern Theatres are introduced to a character who went onto become the most famous detective of all time and the only fictional character ever to receive a full-page obituary in the New York Times.
Having received multiple awards and a BAFTA nomination for his portrayal of ‘Jesus’ in Franco Zefferelli’s Jesus of Nazareth, Powell went on to star in the hit BBC TV comedy The Detectives.
His previous stage performances include roles in the national tours of Alan Bennett’s Single Spies and Jeffrey Bernard is Unwell before most recently appearing in Singin’ in the Rain at the Palace Theatre in the West End.
