Open invite to explore Malvern care homes' historic gardens

Malvern Editorial 7th Jun, 2024   0

A COLLECTION of Malvern based care homes will be opening their stunning gardens to the public this summer.

Part of its care home open week, Friends of Eldery Malvern homes are inviting everyone to visit the picturesque gardens free of charge.

Covering approximately four acres, the gardens contain a vast variety of flowers, shrubs, perennials and over 50 species of tree including Giant Redwoods, the Giant Sequoia and the Ginkgo Biloba.

“As part of our celebrations, we thought it would be a lovely idea to open our historic iron gates and invite members of the local community into the grounds to see our glorious gardens,” said Jo Bennett, the general manager at Friends of the Elderly Malvern.

Visitors will also be able to discover two secret gardens – the sunken water garden and the grotto – during the open week from Saturday, June 22 to Friday, June 28

“According to the history books, both the sunken water garden and grotto date back to the first decade of the 20th Century when Charles Dyson Perrins lived at the property,” Jo added.

Another attraction is the famous Davenham Well, also known as St John’s Well, which is located at Davenham Residential Care Home.

Other gardens are located at Perrins House and Bradbury Court.

“The residents are looking forward to our open garden week, and seeing visitors admire our beautiful grounds,” added Tina Ellenton, the Activities Coordinator at Davenham Care Home.

Free refreshments will be provided for visitors to enjoy homemade cakes and more as they stroll through the gardens.

“Everyone is really excited about our open gardens week. We are looking forward to welcoming our local community, new and existing friends through our gates and hope they have a wonderful time too,” concluded Jo.
