A CHARITY fun day is to be held in Malvern this weekend in memory of a loving mum who was ‘loved everywhere’ and well known for her ‘massive personality’.

The family of Shirley Sparrey is holding a special day full of activities on Saturday to raise funds for St Richard’s Hospice.

Shirley, a mother of three, died aged 63 at the end of last year after a long struggle with cancer and the hospice cared for her during her battle. She worked as a cook at Malvern St James Girls School for more than 20 years.

The fun day will be held at the Bakery Inn on Worcester Road between 10.30am until late featuring a bouncy castle, BBQ, face painting, raffles, white elephant, tombola, jumble sale, nearly new stall, cake stall and an evening disco.

A sponsored walk is taking place from Worcester’s New Road cricket ground to the Bakery Inn from 7am on the same day, as well as a special football match at Dyson Perrins High School at 10.30am in her memory.

Shirley’s daughter Sarah Lonsdale told the Observer: “We are organising the fun day in memory of our Mum. Mum was very well loved everywhere, having many friends. She had a massive personality and it stayed with her until the end.

“All proceeds are going to St Richards Hospice. They helped us when we needed them, looking after mum so she was comfortable.

“These people are worth their weight in gold.

“We would love as many people as possible young and old to come and join in the fun and help us raise as much as we can.”
