It’s all in the timing

A SCHEME aimed at rewarding volunteers for the time and effort put in to the community has been rolled out in Malvern.

Onside has launched its Time Bank project which will allow individuals and organisations to swap their time and skills with other members.

The charity, which cares for thousands of disadvantaged people across Herefordshire and Worcestershire, said for every hour of help someone gives, they receive one time credit which can be used on things they may need help with.

More than 20 people signed up for more information at Malvern Vale’s Community Fete on Saturday, August 29.

The four-month pilot has been funded from county councillor John Raine’s divisional fund.

“It is such a simple idea,” Coun Raine said. “And one which I am sure will help build on the great sense of community being fostered by the hard work of Malvern Vale Residents’ Association.”

Cathy Jackson-Read, directory of business development at Onside, added: “Time Banking is a great way of building stronger, more sustainable communities.

“We aim to demonstrate the value of this approach in Malvern and secure ongoing funding to extend the pilot.”
