THE GROUP responsible for protecting the Malvern Hills has issued a hands-off warning after two men were seen with metal detectors on the precious green land.
Malvern Hills Conservators has confirmed to The Observer it received a report of the treasure finding activity taking place on the Malvern Hills on Monday, October 12.
The body are keen to stress metal detecting is prohibited on the huge acres of land and is illegal under the Conservator’s byelaws without granted permission.
The latest report comes more than a year after the hills suffered serious damage from suspected metal detecting.
Up to 50 small holes were dug along the ridgeline of the central hills between Perseverance Hill and Black Hill in September last year.
The incident caused damage to the nationally protected grassland which was close to nationally important archaeology hidden beneath the ground.
Beck Baker, community and conservation officer, said: “The one report we received was from a gentleman out walking on October 12 of two males carrying metal detectors and a spade on the slopes of Pinnacle Hill.
“We don’t have any more information but we are just raising awareness that metal detecting is not permitted on the Malvern Hills.”
The Malvern Hills Conservators say anyone convicted of metal detecting on the hills could be fined.
