MP welcomes chance for schools to bid for more cash

MALVERN schools are set to benefit from a share of extra funding, totalling £390million.

The town’s MP Harriett Baldwin has welcomed the news which means Worcestershire schools will soon be able to bid for a part of the pot which is aiming to help deliver a fairer funding deal.

Last year, the Government announced cash had been allocated to improve the funding deal for counties like Worcestershire which have historically suffered a lower funding settlement than other counties.

The total allocated to the county will be confirmed in December but schools are already being encouraged to place a bid for additional funds.

Mrs Baldwin said: “I am delighted this extra funding has been allocated and it looks like the county will get additional funds to help our schools.

“I have had meetings with headteachers over the last few weeks and they were keen for me to pass on the message to Government that we need to fix the long-standing imbalance in funding.”
