HUNDREDS of youngsters in Malvern were feeling overjoyed today (Thursday) when they celebrated A-Level success.

Students from The Chase School, Hanley Castle High School, Dyson Perrins Academy, Malvern College, Abbey College and Malvern St James Girls’ School had smiles all round after finding out they got the grades they wanted.

For most students it was a huge relief as they now can go on and study at their preffered University or move onto their chosen career path.

Worcestershire County Council has reported that initial data indicates that, out of the majority of the schools in the county, 85 pe cent of Worcestershire students achieved 3 or more A*-E grades*.

At The Chase 83 per cent of A Level students achieved 3 grades A*-E and 93 per cent 2 grades A*-E. 18 per cent of students secured grades AAB or higher in at least 3 ‘facilitating subjects’, the ‘Gold Standard’ of A Level results.

Students Joseph Mead, Danielle Dean, Frederick Wolff and Kyra Birkett all secured places at Oxford or Cambridge University.

Headteacher Richard Jacobs said: “We are thrilled that once again the hard work of our students and staff has been rewarded with such great results. We are especially pleased that almost all of our students secured the places at University that they wanted and can follow their dreams.”

And it was a record breaking day at Hanley Castle High School where a third of all passes were at either A* or A grade. It ensured a record number of students have secured their places at Oxford, Cambridge and other universities.

Star performers included Will Carter who gained three A* grades in chemistry, mathematics and physics, with an A grade in further mathematics.

Will is now off to Exeter University, where he will be studying for a master’s degree in physics.

He said: “I am chuffed with my results. I couldn’t have achieved them without my wonderful teachers. I am so grateful to them.”

Other top performing students at the school included Jai Bolton, Katy Husband, Olivia Clutterbuck and Rosie Grinell.

At Dysons Perrins Academy average point scores for students far exceeded their targets as a pass rate of 98% was achieved.

Exceptional individual performers included Leah Daly who will now go on to study Physics at Lancaster University, Dom Jolley who takes up his offer to study Mechanics at Sheffield and Matt Thompson who will study Journalism at the University of the West of England, Bristol.

At Malvern St James Girls School the overall pass rate increased to 99 per cent. Over 28 per cent of students have achieved AAB or above in their three A Level subjects with several students celebrating straight A* – A grades.

Head Girl Elysia Garland, from Welland and former pupil of The Elms in Colwall, received straight A grades at A Level and is going to Edinboro College in America on a Lacrosse Scholarship for one year. For the following year she has a place secured at Exeter University to study Geography.

She follows in the footsteps of Lottie Van Praag (Head Girl during 2013-14) and Sophie Coombs Roberts; both also Sports Scholars at Exeter, with Sophie recently moving on into a top job with Sky Sports.

Elysia said: “I’ve done it! All the hard work has been worth it. I am really lucky to have this incredible opportunity; you’ve got to say ‘Yes’ to as many experiences as possible.

“I’m very grateful for all the support during the preparation for the SATs which I had to take in the middle of my A Level mocks. I’m over the moon!”

And at Abbey College 91 per cent of students scored A* to B grades. Head boy Maksad Gulyamov from Uzbekistan achieved 2 A*s, one A and one B and Head girl Thao Pham from Vietnam celebrated after getting an A*, A and B.

At Malvern College, Ben Williams achieved 4 A*s and will take up his place at Oxford to study Chemistry and so is Toni Adejuyigbe who will study Law after getting 3 A*s.
