HEARTFELT tributes have been paid to a popular football loving man from Malvern who ‘lived life to the full’.

Vaughn Albone, who managed the town’s The Gloster Arms football team, died of cancer earlier this week at the age of 63.

His passing comes just months after he raised hundreds of pounds for St Richard’s Hospice when he bravely completed his fund-raising mission to get to the top of the Malvern Hills in his wheelchair.

Vaughn was joined by loved ones and many of his friends on November 14 last year and raised more than £1,000 for the charity which cared for him during his illness.

A Facebook post from Vaughn’s brother Kevin Albone reads: “Vaughn, I always admired the way you lived your life to the full, seemingly never letting anything get you down. Your zest for live and your spirit shone through all you had to endure. You will be sorely missed by many, many people. Be at peace my brother xx.”

Vaughn’s cousin David Albone also took to Facebook posting: “You’ll be so missed by all who’s lives you touched Vaughn.

“I’m so pleased we were able to be a small part of it after so many years of not knowing each other. Rest now and all of love David and Christine xxx.”

The McDonald’s Worcester and District League, which The Gloster Arms is part of, announced Vaughn’s passing away on its website earlier this week.

A short statement reads: “The league regrets to report that The Gloster Arms FC are mourning the loss of their manager Vaughn Albone. Vaughn passed away this week after a battle with cancer.

“The League sends its condolences, and thoughts are very much with all his family and friends at this very sad time.”

The McDonald’s Worcester and District League confirmed a minute’s silence will be held this Sunday (January 31) pror to The Gloster Arms’ home match against Northside FC at Victoria Park.
