WEST Mercia Police will be making sure they have the appropriate number of officers and staff on duty for England’s game against Croatia on July 10.
Chief Constable, Anthony Bangham, believes it’s important to make sure there is enough policing at this stage of the World Cup.
He said: “You will have seen the national and local headlines about the pressures on the police at this current time.
“It’s a direct result of the World Cup matches, the hot weather and the local events and activities which are going on for it.
“To add to the pressure – we have also had to deploy a large number of our resources to London to support the visit of the US President.”
West Mercia Police will be increasing officers shifts throughout the week to try to maintain good emergency response times.
The Safer Neighbourhood Teams will also be doing extra shifts but the Chief Constable noted their response may ‘take longer’ than usual.
Police and Crime Commissioner, John Campion, added: “England are into the semi-final and that should rightly be celebrated.
“But I don’t want to see people jumping off bus stops, damaging ambulances and getting into fights.
“That sort of behaviour has nothing to do with football and creates an unnecessary headache for our police, ambulances and hospitals.”
England’s huge semi-final clash against Coratia kicks off at 7pm on ITV.
