Jungle Book fever set to come to Malvern

Malvern Editorial 28th Apr, 2016 Updated: 20th Oct, 2016   0

MALVERN residents are being invited on a journey through the urban jungle in an award-winning theatre’s production of a classic children’s book.

Metta Theatre will bring their world premiere and major UK tour of Jungle Book to Malvern Theatres from Tuesday (May 3) to Saturday, May 7.

Directed by Poppy Burton-Morgan, this version of Rudyard Kipling’s much loved novel has been radically re-imaged with street dance, circus, and skateboards.

Transposed to a contemporary urban jungle of fleet-footed Wolves, street dancing Monkeys, a beat-boxing bin man and a graffiti artist, the production has steered Kipling’s work into the 21st century.

The powerful story follows Mowgli on her search for identity and belonging in a vulnerable, isolated and alien environment, whilst transcending boundaries that will resonate with audiences young and old, urban and rural.

The production will use a diverse and multi-skilled cast, including the UK’s leading dancers and circus performers, to explore the search for identity in contemporary multi-cultural Britain.

Jungle Book will be performed on Tuesday and Wednesday at 7pm, Thursday at 10am and 1.30pm, Friday at 7pm and Saturday at 2.30pm and 7pm.

Tickets range from £12.32 to £22.40.
