Kempsey company sees surge in its 'home office' kits as more people work from their houses

WITH more employees now working from home a Kempsey company is offering kits to help people create offices in their homes.

Mitre Oak Ltd’s Oak Framed Kits say there has been an increased demand in people needing office space in their homes.

Statistics from the University of Southampton show the number of UK residents working from home before March was just six per cent but that went up to 43 per cent in April.

The lockdown eased and the Government initially encouraged people to ‘return to work’ but now has switched back to telling people to work from home where possible.

People have also dound working from home has its benefits – from losing the stress of the daily commute and travel expenses to not having as much distraction from colleagues.

Mitre Oak says it has seen an increase in the number of people contacting them to add their work space solutions to their additional buildings – for example some add them onto their homes, while others have them above their garages.

Andrew Christopher, Managing Director and Owner of Mitre Oak Ltd said the kits were flexible enough to be installed quickly and easily by a proficient ‘DIY’er’, the customer’s choice of local builder or by the Mitre Oak Team.

The Home Office Kits incorporate traditional Mortise and Tenon oak pegged joints, handmade oak window frames and doors with Larch cladding for a solid and secure workspace that, in most cases will not require planning permission.

Two of the designs also feature verandas, useful for sheltered outdoor working or a socially distanced meeting.

The company produces five Oak Framed Office Kits with different styles and prices.

And, in keeping with the local link, the kits are named after inspirational Worcestershire people including famous soldier Hannah Snell, novelist Fay Weldon and composer Edward Elgar.

They are made at the workshop in Kempsey before being delivered to the customer.

Mr Christopher said research showed creating a home office maximised productivity and provided people with a work space away from distractions.

“A home work space should be suitable to house a dedicated desk and office chair, it should also be a pleasant place to be -light and airy with windows and a view to the garden would be ideal and conducive to aiding freethinking and concentration.”
