BESTSELLING novel and film The Kite Runner is set to come to the stage in Malvern.

The play, which will run at Malvern Theatres from Monday, October 6, to Saturday, October 11, has been adapted by Matthew Spangler from the original book by Khaled Hosseini.

Set initially in the divided nation of Afghanistan as the country is on the brink of war, it tells the dramatic tale of childhood friends Amir and Hassan who’s own lives are about to be torn apart.

The plot unfolds on a beautiful afternoon in Kabul when excitement is building ahead of a kite flying tournament. But little do the boys know what is about to happen to Hassan that afternoon, an event that shatters their lives.

What ensues is a haunting story of friendship which spans cultures and continents following Amir’s journey to confront his past and find redemption.

Giles Croft directs the play which stars Ben Turner as Amir, known by many for his role as Jay Faldren in TV drama Casualty.

Turner has performed in numerous productions on stage and screen after training as an actor at Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He recently appeared in the film 300: Rise of an Empire before taking on the role of Amir, who also narrates in play.

Evening shows will start at 7.30pm while Saturday and Wednesday matinées begin at 2.30pm.

There will also be a free post show discussion following the Thursday, October 9 performance.

Tickets cost between £15.12 and £29.68.
